Dear 8th grade parents,

We are getting closer to the opening of the high school application process. See below for details of the start date. Please begin to actively research high schools that your child may be interested in . Do not wait for the last week to decide which high schools you would like your child to apply to. Anything can happen and we want you to be prepared and submit before the last days of the due date. If you have applied to private school, you should still submit a NYC public high school application. You never know and it's always best to have another backup.

Ms Rattner will be hosting meetings if you have any questions. Right now, because of Covid concerns we cannot have parents coming into the building but If you would like to have a private virtual meeting, please let me know. We are here for you.

Dear Families,

We are reaching out today with some important updates about high school admissions for this year.

  • The high school application will open the week of January 24, 2022, and close during the week of February 28.

  • In response to feedback from community leaders, families, and schools, borough- and zone-based admissions priorities will remain in place this year. This means that some high school programs will continue to prioritize zoned applicants and/or applicants who live or currently attend middle school in a specific borough. District-based admissions priorities were eliminated last year and will continue to not be used in high school admissions.

  • For high school programs that screen applicants, multiple measures will be used to evaluate students this year. These measures will include submissions of work samples from last year, such as essays or reports, and first-semester grades from this school year.

  • MySchools will reflect these updates within the coming week.

In January, we’ll share more details about high school admissions.

  • Interested in arts programs? Before the holidays, we'll provide information about preparing for auditions for high school arts programs, including Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts.

  • Right now, you can read more about high school admissions at schools.nyc.gov/High and log in to your MySchools.nyc account to explore options and build your list of favorite programs.

Specialized High Schools Admission Test (SHSAT)

Hello 8th grade parents,

I have gotten questions about preparing for the Specialized High Schools Admission Test (SHSAT) Here is a link with general information about the SHSAT along with practice exams. I think you will find it very helpful.

Within the next few weeks, we will know when the application process to take the exam will begin. I will let you know when the timeline becomes available.

Dear Parents of 8th grade students,

This past weekend, you should have received a letter in the mail with instructions on how to set up a Myschools.nyc account. This is different than the Mystudent account where you see report card grades, attendance and other biographical information. If you have not received a letter in the mail, please email me so I can give you your account creation code. I would also need to update your address if you are not receiving DOE letters.

Your Myschools.nyc account is the website you will use to explore high schools, register for tests/ auditions, submit your application and finally, receive your high school offer. Although there is no deadline for the applications to be submitted for the NYC public high schools as of yet, there is a deadline for registering to take the Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT) That deadline is November 15. The exam will be administered here, at 128, in early December.

https://www.myschools.nyc/en/

Register for the SHSAT by November 15. Registration is now open for the Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT), which determines admissions to the eight testing Specialized High Schools.

  • If you are interested in applying to any/all of these schools, submit your registration—including your school preferences—by the November 15 deadline. Registration for the SHSAT is not first-come first-served; all students who register by the deadline can take the SHSAT.

  • You can register online with your MySchools account

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me or Ms Levine at LLevine11@schools.nyc.gov
